"Ideal weight" isn't one magic number — it's a healthy range. This calculator combines three established clinical reference points to give you a realistic target range for your height.

How Is Ideal Weight Calculated?

We use two long-established clinical formulas — Devine and Hamwi — alongside the healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) as defined by WHO and CDC guidelines, and show all three so you can see where they agree.

Why Three Different Numbers?

No single formula is perfect for everyone — body frame, muscle mass, and build all affect what's healthy for you. Seeing a range instead of one number gives a more realistic picture.

How to Use This Result

  • Use the range as a general target, not a strict rule
  • Muscular or large-framed individuals may healthily sit above this range
  • Combine with your BMI and body fat percentage for a fuller picture

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which formula is most accurate?

None is perfect on its own — that's why we show three. Devine is widely used in clinical medication dosing, Hamwi is a classic dietetics reference, and the BMI range reflects current public health guidance.

What if my weight is above this range but I'm athletic?

These formulas don't account for muscle mass. A muscular, low-body-fat individual can healthily weigh more than this range suggests — body fat percentage is a better indicator in that case.

Does this account for body frame size?

Not directly. Small and large-framed individuals may reasonably sit at the low or high end of the range, or slightly outside it.
